Privacy policy
Hackathons.ph is run by We do cool stuff Inc., a Philippine corporation with its office at the 6th Floor, Mabuhay Tower, Lahug, Cebu City. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to keep it plain. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@hackathons.ph.
The short version: you can browse the whole index without an account, we do not run ads, we do not sell your data, and our analytics do not use cookies or follow you around the web.
What we collect
- If you create an account: your email address, a display name, an optional short bio, and an optional avatar. If you turn on organizer mode, the organizer profile you fill in.
- If you subscribe to the newsletter: your email address, the city you pick, and any theme interests you choose later. Nothing else.
- If you post or claim a hackathon: the event details you submit and the proof you provide when claiming a listing.
- If you contact us about running a hackathon: your name, company, role, work email, and whatever you tell us in the form.
- Automatically: basic server logs (IP address, browser, timestamps) kept briefly for security and debugging, and aggregate, anonymous usage stats from our own analytics. The analytics do not set cookies and cannot identify you.
How we use it
- To run the index, your account, and any listings you post.
- To send only the emails you asked for: the weekly digest, follow alerts, and the confirmation and account emails you trigger.
- To reply to inquiries about our hackathon-organizing service.
- To keep the service secure and to fix problems.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or anything you did not ask for.
Cookies and analytics
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and nothing for tracking. Our analytics (self-hosted Plausible) are cookieless and aggregate. The full breakdown is on our cookies page.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the platform, and only as far as they need it: Supabase (database and sign-in), Amazon SES and Sendy (email delivery), Cloudflare R2 (image storage), and n8n (our own automation). We may disclose information if the law requires it. There are no advertising or data-broker third parties.
Every newsletter signup is double opt-in, so nobody is added without confirming. Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and listing data for as long as your account is active. Delete your account or unsubscribe and we remove the associated personal data, except the minimum we must keep for legal or security reasons. Server logs are rotated out within a short window.
How we protect it
Data is encrypted in transit, access to it is limited to the people who run the site, and our providers carry their own security controls. No system is ever perfectly secure, so we also keep what we collect to a minimum. Less data is less to protect.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and you can withdraw consent for the newsletter at any time. Email hello@hackathons.ph and we will action it. These rights are consistent with the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012.
Children
Hackathons.ph is not aimed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will remove it.
Where your data lives
Our providers store data on servers outside the Philippines (for example in Singapore and the EU). By using the site you understand your data may be processed in those locations under the same protections described here.
Links to other sites
Listings link out to each organizer's own registration page. Once you leave hackathons.ph we no longer control what happens to your data, and this policy stops applying. Check the destination site's own policy before you hand anything over.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for anything significant, tell subscribers by email. Questions go to hello@hackathons.ph.
